The cryptocurrency industry is mostly characterized by its volatile nature which keeps it on edge always. However, besides the cryptocurrencies themselves, another entity that seems to be on edge is the digital currency community itself. The best way to watch the activity in the industry is through Twitter.

EA sends cryptocurrency community into a frenzy with a crypto tweet

Early in the day popular gaming company Electronic Arts made a bullish tweet that set the crypto community into a frenzy. The company made a tweet in which it simply said  “Invest in Crypto.” The tweet got the crypto community talking with the tweet receiving over 10,000 favorites and around 4,000 retweets.

The tweet attracted the attention of crypto enthusiasts as well as corporate entities who rallied around it. Some of them include Bitcoin Magazine, Binance, and OKCoin among others. There was much excitement regarding the tweet, and most Twitter users expressed their support for it. However, the message of the company had nothing to do with cryptocurrencies.

Introducing Apex Legends Season 3: Meltdown‘s new character called “Crypto”

Electronic Arts is one of the largest gaming companies globally with popular games such as NHL, FIFA, Need for Speed, Titanfall, NBA Live, The Sims, and Madden. The company was using the tweet as a marketing gimmick for introducing their new character in Apex Legends Season 3; Meltdown. The game is set for release on October 1st.

The company replied to the tweet confirming that they were referring to a character in the game called “Crypto.” This is about traditional cryptography and has no relationship with Satoshi white papers or cryptocurrencies.

Crypto enthusiasts should have noticed that the “c” in “Crypto” was capitalized. In normal circumstances, it would not be, especially when referring to cryptocurrencies. Nonetheless, this was a great ploy by EA in boosting interest in the game ahead of its official launch.

The tweet stirred up some bullish sentiment in the crypto industry

There are those of the opinion that the tweet might have helped the industry. For instance, Bitcoin raised its head again and jumped to $10,200, where it is currently trading. Other altcoins as well rebounded following the tweet.

Despite the tweet not referring to cryptocurrency, it still had an impact. EA has millions of fans globally, and on Twitter, there are over 5.5 million followers. Therefore an endorsement, even if it was trolling crypto users, could have its effects felt in the industry. That kind of visibility could create bullish sentiments which ultimately will push prices up.
